Bob Faris

Bob Faris Memorial Event

BPS are proud to present the second of a series of special one-day events in his memory.
In 2023 we held our first Memorial Event which showcased Michael O’Sullivan and Joe Cornish. We are continuing the tradition of inviting photographers who represent the highest standards in their fields. Come along and enjoy a day of inspiring talks and meet our sponsors displaying some of your photographic essentials.

Speakers

Charlie Waite

Talk Topic: Behind The Photograph
Landscape photography is a way of life and is an essential method of expression for Charlie Waite. In discussing his work, he refers to ‘pre-visualisation’ first used by the great American landscape photographer Ansel Adams, from which he draws much inspiration amongst others. “It is the creative act of the artist-photographer who, in visualising a poetic or revealing image within the scene in front of him, anticipates what the final print must convey to express what he sees and feels”. Charlie refers to Ansel Adams and other artists and photographers who have inspired him and shaped his work.

His talk is light-hearted and interspersed with humorous tales within which he reveals the thought processes and the techniques behind his own images, binding them into stories and sharing the anxieties and the joys which accompany their creation.

Steven Le Provost

Talk Topic: A Feeling of Impressionism
The presentation will cover work created in recent years including three Fellowship Panels.

He will explain his thought process, techniques and methods used when in creative mode. He will show examples of artwork as it evolves, from the beginning concept through to the competed artwork.

Steven Le Provost

Steven Le Provost is a creative photographer whose aim is where possible to challenge the fundamentals and boundaries of photography and to strive to be unique in his preferred style of photographic art.

Steven holds the following distinctions.
FRPS – Fellow. (Royal Photographic Society) 2005
MPAGB – Master. (Photographic Alliance of Great Britain) 2005
AFIAP – Artiste. (Federation Internationale de l’Art Photographique) 2010
FRPS – Fellow. (Royal Photographic Society) 2016
FIPF – Fellow. (Irish Photographic Federation) 2016

He has previously served on the Royal Photographic Societies Fine Art Distinctions Panel and has some of his work included within the RPS Permanent Collection. An invitation to membership of the London Salon of Photography was proudly accepted in 2011.

His goal is to create a picture that portrays mood, atmosphere and emotion but with occasional surrealism and impressionism included. Achieving this may involve purposely removing the clinical sharpness that is generally associated with a photograph or possibly working on the colour palette to allow the colours to bleed and become more fluid.

Home is the Channel Island of Guernsey, although he can often be found away from island life judging national and international photographic salons or presenting his own work at various events.
